Millie Maven: 3 Book Bundle
I have not received books.
We got the series of three books two weeks ago. Since we don’t watch TV much, we read the first book for two hours out loud each night. The kids (7 and 9) have reading to do at night, chores, and showers for school, BUT while we were reading this book they got their stuff done in record time. My husband never missed a night, either. The teacher now has the book.
What a great first book. Millie is told who she is,worthless. Then a mysterious adventure takes her to a pool of water that will take away her memories of her current circumstances. What is this new place? Who do you trust? The suspense builds in the book. Three challenges await the group of children where they will discover what their strengths and their true identities are so that they can continue their journey to FIGS or they can quit and go back to their unknown life. Every night the kids begged to read one more chapter, and every night I did. It was hard not to read ahead after they had gone to bed.
The story will capture the reader. We stopped to discuss some of the issues that Millie had to deal with; bullies, fear, trust, and the messages created in our heads.
We will start the second book this weekend. The kids have started asking me when we will read the second book. As for me, I ordered “They Way of Love” series. I stumbled across A.D.30 and A.D. 33 a couple of years back and have listened to the books on tape 3 times. I had just finished reading The Girl Behind The Red Rope, also a great book. My newest purchase has helped me understand Mr.Dekker’s characters who live in one world and live in a second world.
Anyway, I am 71. This series will captivate an audience of all age ranges.
Bought the books for my boys stockings. They are only 6&4 so we have started listening to the chapters at bed time. They always want just one more chapter! I hope this leads to them being hooked on Dekker like I was as a teen
Sorry haven't started yet. Going to read with my grandchildren together.
These books are good. I would say that they are great had I not read the Harry Potter series. There are some overwhelming similarities between the two stories. That being said, IF you haven't read the HP series, you will likely find Millie Maven to be even more ingenious and likeable than I did, and you won't be annoyed at all with the aforementioned similarities. I heard Ted say in a promo that this was a different series also because there isn't magic involved. True...but...well, I guess I see it as potaytoes, patawtoes - you'll have to work that out for yourself. Although at times the books can be a little wordy and dramatic, they teach important truths about how loved and valued each person is by Our Creator God, and I will definitely read them to my granddaughter when she is older. AND I loved the winks back to other Dekker books. Of course there are worms in Paradise. :)
